Another nice addition to the series, Kelly. It might benefit from a bit of noise reduction, and cutting back the purple fringe around the highlights. Not much you could do about it when shooting in bright back light though, just a characteristic of the lens. If you don't mind, and recall, which lens were you using?
Thanks!

@Dang: I hate the purple fringe :o( I've gotten it a few times on backlit subjects, but I couldn't resist this shot. It brought out the thorns so well. The lens I used, was a Tamron, 70-300 macro, f/4.5-5.6. Not the best quality. I would prefer a Nikon lens first (I have a D70), then Tokina, but I'm on a shoestring budget and do the best I can with what I have. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
Kelly, sorry for the long delay in getting back to you on this. I've owned this lens myself, and it served me well until I purchased a Canon L to replace it. The LD series which gives half life size reproduction is the sharpest, and most versatile lens in the less than $200. price range in my meager opinion. The fringing is it's one problem, but you can minimize it in post processing my carefully lowering the magenta & cyan ranges. To avoid the problem though, try keeping the sun behind you when possible. It tends to react this way only when shooting directly toward the sun. Beware too, if you upgrade, the lower priced Nikon in this size is identical to the Tamron in construction & coatings. I really suggest waiting until you can purchase the more expensive lens to benefit.
Noise can be minimized using an NR program. You can get a free version which processes file sizes for web posting here: There's several NR programs out there, but I've been using this one for several years without complaint. Keep it up, and have fun.
